I’ve gotta say, working on the logo for 31 Days of Doing the Holidays! was just pure fun—I mean,
come on, it was Beavis and Butt-Head! I ended up with a bunch of logo ideas my teammates loved, so I took a few of the strongest ones and gave them some motion graphics magic.

 

Beavis and Butt-Head are such lovable idiots with instantly recognizable personalities, so for this first animation, I wanted to play on the classic dynamic where Butt-Head bullies Beavis into getting the short end of the stick. My idea: two Christmas bulbs, one for each of them, dangling in frame… until Butt-Head’s bulb knocks Beavis’s right out, transitioning into the 31 Days logo. The animation wasn’t exactly perfect, but it definitely nailed the joke.

For this second design, I wanted something a little more cartoony and chaotic. I loved the idea of having the logo emerge from behind Beavis and Butt-Head, with the bulb ornament clumsily revealing the rest.
It had so much personality and felt perfectly in line with their style. But in the end, the editorial team wanted the boys more front and center. I still really enjoyed making it—it just didn’t quite tick all the boxes.

This next design was a fun one—two Christmas balls… I mean, ornaments—clacking together and landing on a “bush” of tangled Christmas lights. Immature humor at its finest, and honestly, I’d like to think Beavis and
Butt-Head would be proud. It checked so many of
our boxes: the logo was clear, the boys were front
and center, and it had just the right amount of naughty humor. While it didn’t end up as the main logo,
it became our alternate design and popped up a few times throughout the month-long event.

And here it is—the final logo design for 31 Days of Doing the Holidays with Beavis and Butt-Head. This one was the clear winner and easily the strongest design. The animation kicks off with the boys facing each other, just like in the show’s intro, before sliding apart to reveal the logo while still staying in frame.
The timing clicked, the composition felt spot-on, and it translated perfectly for mobile viewing. I’m super proud of this logo as well as the other unused ones and
